(23b) At that time, using (as laborers) enemy people that I had conquered, whom the gods Aššur, (25) Nabû, (and) Marduk had made bow down at my feet, and (who) (now) pull my yoke, (and) in accordance with divine will (and) my heart’s desire, I built a city at the foot of Mount Muṣri, upstream from Nineveh, and named it Dūr-Šarrukīn.

(30) I built inside it (the city) a palace using (lit.: “of”) elephant ivory, ebony, boxwood, musukkannu-wood, cedar, cypress, daprānu-juniper, juniper, and terebinth to be my royal residence. I then invited the god Aššur, the great lord, and the (other) gods who dwell in Assyria, (35) (to come) inside it, and I offered pure, honorific sacrifices before them. I received substantial audience gift(s) from rulers from the four quarters (of the world), who had submitted to the yoke of my lordship and (thereby) saved their lives, (along) with (gifts) from the provincial governors of my land, (40) overseers, commanders, nobles, eunuchs, and temple administrators. I had them sit down for a banquet and held a festival.

1Ex. 5 has [...-ke]-e-nu for -GI.NA. Ex. 3 omits LUGAL, “king,” after RN.

2Ex. 2 omits ù, “and.”

3Ex. 5 omits i-na, “with.”

4Exs. 2, 4 insert ù, “and,” after dAG, “Nabû.”

5Ex. 2 omits KUR before ELAM.MA.KI, thus “Elam” for “land Elam.”

6We would expect the verbs here and in lines 22 and 23 to be in the subjunctive in view of the ša in line 4.
