Using the Sources Corpus

This page explains how to browse the RIBo Sources Corpus. The transliterations included on this site are released under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.

You may find it helpful to read the Oracc user documentation [/doc/help/visitingoracc/index.html] before you start to explore RIBo for the first time. If your browser has problems displaying the special transliteration characters such as Š and š (Shin), Ṣ and ṣ (Sade), and Ṭ and ṭ (Tet), then you may want to download Steve Tinney's Ungkam font [/doc/help/visitingoracc/fonts/index.html] for Mac, Windows, or Linux. If you're still having trouble viewing these characters, then you'll need to correctly set the character encoding on your browser.

On Firefox, go to the Character Encoding item on the View menu and choose Unicode (UTF-8).
On Google Chrome, go to the Encoding item on the View menu and choose Unicode (UTF-8).
On Internet Explorer, go to the Encoding item on the View menu and choose Unicode (UTF-8).
On Safari, go to the Text Encoding item on the View menu and choose Unicode (UTF-8).

Page View (corpus browser)

All of the texts in the sources corpus are individual object transliterations and, therefore, texts included in this sub-project are generally listed first by their museum, registration, or excavation number. The Page View for each item displays (from left to right) the following information: (1) object designation; (2) the modern designation of the composite inscription to which the object belongs (usually the one provided by a Neo-Babylonian specialist, Ricío Da Riva and Hanspeter Schaudig in particular); (3) RIBo's composite designation (for example, "Nabopolassar 01" or "Neriglissar 03") followed by exemplar number (when applicable); (4) museum and/or registration number; (5) excavation number (if known); (6) (assumed) provenance; and (7) material support.

Item View

The Item View shows a non-lemmatized transliteration of an individual object or display an explanatory note by the editorial staff when it has not been possible to provide a transliteration (usually when the original cannot be found and when there is no photograph, copy, or transliteration of the piece). Because the texts are not lemmatized, you cannot place the cursor over any word of the transliteration to see its outline glossary entry or click on the word to go to its full glossary entry.

The RIBo assigned designation of the composite text.

Numbers

A hyperlinked CDLI [http://cdli.ucla.edu/] catalogue number (P+unique six-digit identifier); when no CDLI exists, one will see a temporary RIBo assigned catalogue number (P+unique six-digit identifier), without a hyperlink.

Resigtration Number

Exacavation Number

Views

Printing
