Itti-Marduk-balāṭu, the second ruler of the Second Dynasty of Isin [/ribo/babylon2/], reigned over Babylonia for eight years (see Babylonian King List C [/ribo/KingLists/KingListC/index.html]). Only a few documents from his reign are preserved, namely a royal inscription in his name, a fragmentary kudurru recording the purchase of land and five economic texts. According to the royal inscription, Itti-Marduk-balāṭu was the son of his predecessor Marduk-kabit-aḫḫēšu. Despite the fact that the name of the dynasty given in Babylonian King List A [/ribo/KingLists/KingListA/index.html] suggests that the latter individual (about whose reign we know practically nothing) originated from Isin, Itti-Marduk-balāṭu's royal titulary indicates that as early as his reign, the Second Isin Dynasty [/ribo/babylon2/] had already gained control over Babylon, the former capital of the preceding Kassite Dynasty. He was succeeded by Ninurta-nādin-šumi (see Babylonian King List C [/ribo/KingLists/KingListC/index.html]), a man whose ancestry is unknown.
