Almost all of the letters, queries, and reports are now housed in the British Museum's Department of the Middle East. Museum numbers are typically in two parts: the siglum, which identifies the collection to which a tablet belongs or the date on which a group of tablets was entered into the museum's registers (accessioned); and a continuous count of the tablets in each collection or accession group.
