I (re)confirmed the regular offerings for Esagil and the gods of Babylon. I (re-)established the privileged status of Babylon (and) appointed Šamaš-šuma-ukīn, my favorite brother, to the kingship of Babylon in order that the strong might not harm the weak. Moreover, I decorated Esagil with silver, gold, (and) precious stones and made Eumuša glisten like the stars (lit. “writing”) of the firmament. |

I had (new) doors made and fixed (them) in its gateways. | |

1áš-šú dan-nu a-na SIG la ḫa-ba-li “in order that the strong might not harm the weak”: Cf. the prologue of the Code of Ḫammu-rāpi i 37–39: dan-nu-um / en-ša-am / a-na la ḫa-ba-li-im. ŠEŠ ta-li-mì “my favorite brother”: For a discussion of the meaning of the term talīmu “favorite,” see Bartelmus, SAAB 16 (2007) pp. 287–302. She concludes that the term “was the official designation of the highest possible rank among the king’s relatives, but obviously of lower position than that of the king himself” (ibid., p. 299).
2For the reading of the name of Marduk’s cella in Esagil as é-umuš-a and for information on this holy room, see George, BTT pp. 273 and 389–391.
