1/ga/-ša-am: reading uncertain. Grayson (RIMA 1 A.0.33.1) follows Landsberger and Balkan (Belleten 14, 233: GA-ša-am) and Hirsch (Altass. Religion, n. 241 and 298), who read it kaššu/gaššu/qaššu, and interpret it as “Tempelhof”, a “courtyard?”, see also CAD K 8 (K) p. 293 (“part of the temple of Aššur”). Von Soden (AHw 906a) understands it as the adjective form of qadāšu (“to be(come) pure”), qaššu, “geweiht, heilig”, and also Galter (1998, 20) translates mušlālam qaššam as “geweihte Freiteppe”.

Based on A. Kirk Grayson, Assyrian Rulers of the Third and Second Millennia BC (to 1115 BC) (RIMA 1), Toronto, 1987.
