Lexical lists in the first phase of scribal education

The first phase of scribal education was aimed at teaching the basics of cuneiform signs and vocabulary to young scribes. It thus mostly comprises elementary sign-lists (syllabaries) and vocabularies (lists of proper names, gods, professions, trees, garments, etc.). The great majority of first-phase lexical lists in our corpus come from the āšipus' house(s) in Uruk, thus witnessing the importance of teaching in this place.
